NBT Youth Ensemble
Ms. Cafarella realized that there was a definite need for additional performance experience for NBTDC's dedicated students. In 2000 a young dancers' company was formed. The company, now know as Northern Ballet Theatre Youth Ensemble, while not a professional company, is a non-profit organization under the umbrella of Northern Ballet Theatre. NBTYE may be regarded as a transitional step for the student planning a professional dance career. A Youth Ensemble member receives intensive training and individual coaching. Also the YE's staff regularly gives individual career guidance.
The counseling brings into focus the rigors and requirements of dancing professionally and helps each student set realistic goals for the future. Options for the pursuit of higher education are also considered alongside prospects for a professional career, and the artistic director assists students in evaluating the proper path for each unique individual.
Through this program Ms. Cafarella has trained and coached students who have gone on to dance with professional companies such as Boston Ballet, Hubbard Street, New York Ballet Theatre and the Rockettes. Form students have been accepted to Julliard, Haird Conservatory, American Ballet Theatre, amongst other prestigious academies.
Northern Ballet Theatre Youth Ensemble began by participating in the prestigious Youth American Grand Prix competition. The quality of their dance performances earned the Hope Award, (this award is for a student 11 years of age or younger who shows great potential). Ms. Cafarella was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award. The dancers were invited to attend New York Finals.
NBTDE has performed with the Nashua Symphony, Nashua Chamber Orchestra and The Nashua Flute Choir. The Youth Ensemble also performs regularly at the Nashua's SummerFun every August, Nashua's Downtown Stroll in November and many other city events. This year The Youth Ensemble will bring the art of dance to some Nashua's area schools during the months of April and May.
Auditions are held in September. Students at an Intermediate level with two years of pointe training are eligible to audition. Please call the studio for audition information.
