Northern Ballet Theatre Dance Centre, Formerly the Granite State Ballet School, is under the artistic direction of Doreen Cafarella. In 1985, Ms. Cafarella founded the dance school and initiated the beginnings of a professional company. Today the Northern Ballet Theatre Dance Centre is the official home of the Northern Ballet Theatre, a highly regarded professional company which delights New England audiences with its lavish full-length productions and diverse touring programs that appeal to all levels of dance enthusiasts. The Northern Ballet Theatre Dance Centre provides the atmosphere and training that will nurture both the potential artist and the dance student who studies only for the inherent rewards; self discipline, physical fitness, and a greater appreciation of the art. In addition to the regular classes in ballet technique, pointe, variations, and pas de deux, the curriculum includes modern dance, jazz, musical theater dance, hip hop, and tap styles. All classes are taught by exceptional faculty. Since the school and the company are housed under one roof, many exciting and unique opportunities arise for both the student and the professional. A number of Northern Ballet Theatre Dance Centre programs are taught by Northern Ballet Theatre company members. Students and teachers are able to establish a rapport the provides opportunities for lively discussions pertaining to performance experiences and dance career opportunities. This provides opportunities for the student to observe "up close and personally" the art of professional dance!
